Understanding Independent Contractor Rates

Before I left employment in the public sector, I was often on the local government side of reviewing contractor RFP submissions and project estimates. I had next to NO understanding of what expenses independent contractors bear to operate their businesses. I remember looking at contractor rates and comparing it to my own hourly rate of pay and having a hard time wrapping my head around why the rates seemed so high.

Because of this, I’m making an effort on the other side of the table to be transparent about where expenditures and revenues go in my small business, and how we set our rates.

We strive to provide professional expertise and guidance to our clients, functional deliverables that they can implement, ongoing support for past clients, and innovative solutions. That said, we stand behind our pricing as it reflects industry standards AND the ability to pay our team members and our subcontractors a living wage.
